How Can Abdominal Pain And Vomiting In A Child Be Treated?

Hi, my 9 year old daughter vomited 5-6 times in the morning with abdominal pain. Even she threw up after drinking little water. I gave her Iberogast 3 times in a day then she stopped vomiting. But she got chills and 100 fever. So I gave her crocin syrup. Again after 4 hours she got chills and fever was 102. So I gave her Meftal P. Now her fever is down but if she gets fever again, which medicine should I give?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your family Doctor and to confirm do a stool examination.

2) Drink sufficient ORS fluids [Pedialyte] to prevent dehydration and if the oral fluid is not enough then take IV saline drips.

3) Regarding prescription medications, you can discuss with your treating Doctor about:
a) [Promethazine] for nausea and vomiting
b) [Metronidazole + norfloxacin]for bacterial infection
c) [Paracetamol] for fever above 102 degree

Do follow lifestyle modifications to prevent it in future:

1) Wash your hands, utensils and food surfaces often. Wash your hands well with warm, soapy water before and after handling or preparing food. Use hot, soapy water to wash utensils, cutting boards and other surfaces you use.

2) Keep raw foods separate from ready-to-eat foods. When shopping, preparing food or storing food, keep raw meat, poultry, fish, and shellfish away from other foods. This prevents cross-contamination.

3) Cook foods to a safe temperature. The best way to tell if foods are cooked to a safe temperature is to use a food thermometer. You can kill harmful organisms in most foods by cooking them to the right temperature.

4) Refrigerate or freeze perishable foods promptly within two hours of purchasing or preparing them. If the room temperature is above 90 F (32.2 C), refrigerate perishable foods within one hour.

5) If you aren't sure if a food has been prepared, served or stored safely, discard it. Food left at room temperature too long may contain bacteria or toxins that can't be destroyed by cooking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
