Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently told I had acid reflux. I was given sucralfate and omeprazole. I was given a 7 day supply of sucralfate and 90 day supply of omeprazole 40 mg. I ve taken them for the last two weeks and have not had much heartburn. However, I often get the feeling of food being stuck in my throat even after taken omeprazole. Is there something else I can take for this? I read that often times these aren t the meds needed because most of the time your stomach is producing too little acid....not too much. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Especially thoughts on anything I can take to ease the feeling of something being stuck in my throat. Also what does it mean to have low alkaline phosphatase and high neutrophils (absolute)?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, though it's a shorter amount of time and further treatment with the both can be continued for further therapeutic effects but food getting stuck kind of feeling shouldn't be ignored and alongside medical therapy, upper GI endoscopy appointment should be sought after gastroenterologist review and may need manometry as well. This is one of the warning signs and proper work up should be done though if the workup is unremarkable then medical therapy can be continued and will help in few weeks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
