How Can Allergic Itching And Swelling Around The Eyes Be Treated?

YEs, I have a history of allergies and recently (last 2 wks.) have had major allergy symptoms, sneezy, itchy throat, eyes etc. I live in the mountains and we have had no snow, warm temps. and rain. I was told the cedar pollens are out. In the last 2 days my eyes have been red around the outer perimeter (skin area), swollen in the ams (eyelids and underneath eyes) and very itchy. I was taking over the counter antihistamines, but do not like meds. I made chamomille tea bag compresses for eyes and am taking a homeopathic allergy remedy for tree pollens. I am also using a natural eye drop for eye allergies. How can I stop this itching and swelling?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you are suffering from known allergies, your current symptoms are due to acute allergic attack. Therefore, you need the following treatment plan:

1. Combination of antihistamine (Levocetirizine or Fexofenadine) and anti-allergic (Montelukast) drugs
2. Oral corticosteroid steroid (Methylprednisolone)
3. Mometasone (steroid) cream for itching

Since all these are prescribed drugs, you need to consult the doctor for the prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
