How Can Allergic Swelling On The Tongue Be Treated?
Hello, Doctor, I used a teeth whitener that burned my tongue, which is now quite swollen on one side. First I took aspirin to reduce the swelling, then allergy pill, then ibuprofen. Also sucked ice, rinsed with lots of cool water. Tongue is still very swollen on the one side. Thanks for any help. Kristine
Swelling of tongue is due to inflammation of tongue caused due to chemical burns over the tongue..
The remedies that you have tried are all fine but still it takes time for the swelling to subside..
You should continue to take Ibuprofen as it will definitely help in reducing swelling, pain and inflammation.. You should also continue to do cool compresses over the tongue to reduce swelling.. Avoid spicy and hard foods.. Avoid using any concentrated chemicals like concentrated mouthwash solution or very hot foods.
If there is no improvement in a week consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
