How Can An Abscess Around C-section Incision Site Be Treated?

My last C-Section was 22 years ago. They left a small hole that never closed. It would form a little lump under it and I would squeeze it and white smelly stuff would come out (sorry I know that sounds really gross) and then i would leave it alone for months and do the same thing. I haven t touched it in a while and now it is extremely red, feels like there is a very large mass under the whole and is extremely painful and bleeds when i squeeze it. I guess I should have it looked at, but do you think that I have an abcess that needs to be drained or can I just use a hot compress and antibiotic cream??

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It does sound as though an abscess has developed in the area so it would be best to be seen by your doctor.

Though a hot compress would be helpful to encourage drainage, you still need to be seen so that you can get oral antibiotics. The topical antibiotics are not likely to be enough.
The area may need a slight incision so that adequate drainage can occur.

This would be an in office procedure

I hope this helps
