Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 4 yr old granddaughter is visiting for several days and seems to have an abscess or boil on her bottom. It s at least 1 or about the size of a quarter. Should I attempt to drain it myself, seek medical attention or let her Mother take care of it when she returns home next week?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. . Kindly do the following to overcome the boil over the buttocks what your grand daughter is having. 1. Cleanse the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily. 2. Apply Fusidic acid skin ointment over the lesion as thin layer. 3. Put loose fitting clothes preferably made of cotton. Gradually, the boil should decrease in size and be back to normal. Do not attempt to puncture it and drain your self as it carries the risk of getting infected. If the response is not good and if it continues to increase in size, you need to consult Surgeon for its incision and drainage under aseptic conditions. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
