How Can An Ear Infection Be Treated?

HI, I guess I have a slight ear infection, Dr. said it was the tube running up to my ear. She prescribed amoxiccillian (sp) and Methylprednisolone. It looks like a kit, take 6 one day and gradually goes down to 1 tablet. She said it was a steroid. Never had it before, can you elaborate?
