Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 72 years old. I have enlarged prostate weighing 68 grams. I am taking Urimax 0.4 mg daily in the evening at 7.00 PM for the last one year. I am getting up once at night for passing urine. I have observed that I pass very little urine in the morning time from 9.00 AM onwards upto about 1.00 PM, otherwise it is normal, slightly more frequent in the evening. What are the long term side effects of taking Urimax 0.4 mg daily? What is the risk in discontinuing taking Urimax?
Urimax contains the active ingredient called tamsulosin, an alpha adrenergic blocker. This will help ease urination by relaxing bladder muscles.
Long term side effects of Urimax include decreased interest in sex, sleep disorder, tooth problems, etc.
If you discontinue Urimax, then, the urinary problems you have will get worst. Keep following up with urologist all the time for best treatment strategy.
Hope this helps.
