How Can An Infected Cuticle Be Treated?

I have an infected cuticle...paraniciam....not spelled correctly, my doctor put me on Levoquin for ten days, it hurts so bad....I called back today, he put me on it for another ten days. I totally trust this doctor, I have gone to him for years, but I have a nuero stimulater for my back...I m scared this infection is going to get in my blood stream and go to the battery in my back, I have been soaking it in hydrogen peroxide....Is that ok ? He did all my pre-op stuff for two back surgeries. I m healthy and in good shape, i just don t think he is taking this as serious as he should. What do you think ? Hydrogen P ok ? thanks, Shannon I think I ll just trust my doctor.....

Hi,

The symptoms of infected cuticle can be due to Paronychia and occurs commonly due to causes like bacterial or fungal infection.
This condition is known as paronychia.

It can occur due to conditions like traumatic injury to the side of the nail like while washing clothes or dishwashing, injury while cutting nails, nail biting habit etc, overzealous manicure, etc.Taking antibiotic will help but if it is not improving I would therefore suggest you to consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation is generally sufficient for diagnosis.

You can be advised to apply a combination of steroid, antibiotic and anti-fungal ointment over it.If it is a painfully topical application of numbing ointment and taking anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can help. Do cool compresses over it.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
