Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi: I m a 53 yr old female/5 5 /140 lbs/ allergy to PCN I ve been dealing w a very deep facial cyst around my right nare extending approx 2 to right cheek since Jan.1 my most recent dermatologist (who I think is very good) put me on a 2 week regimen of minocycline 100 mg BID for a Cx that grew enterobacter (I m starting week 2), vinegar soaks, & mupirocin ointment. She injected the area w cortisone w good results approx 1 week ago. However, now the cyst has reopened, draining & expressing white pus & serosanginous fluid, very red & swollen. Is this just the Abx at work or perhaps something more serious? No fever. Thank you for your time.
Serosanguinous discharge is pus draining from the abscess. This is not indicative that antibiotics is not working. -You can continue Minocycline as prescribed -Keep the affected area clean -Use antibacterial soap and warm water to clean the area -Continue using mupirocin ointment and vinegar soaks -You can also apply gauze dressing(to be changed twice daily) if the pus drainage is bothersome. -Since the abscess has opened, the infection will clear up faster now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
