How Can An Infected Open Wound Below The Tailbone Be Treated?

My son has a open wound, an actual hole just under this tail bone area between his butt cheeks, He didn t tell me about it for a few months but had to break down and tell me because it s starting to smell a bit. It looks horrible and I am sure it s infected. He does not have a fever. Help please.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely pilonidal sinus infection. Antibiotic therapy and local antibiotic creams will be helpful to some extent. If that is not helping then surgical excision of pilonidal sinus might be required. For this you can consult a general surgeon.
Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
