How Can An Infected Wound On The Knee Be Treated?

My sone cut his leg just under knee cap he go 8 stitchers ,a tetanus and antibiotic. As were we were was dirty muddy water. I have noticed today day 3 of injury. It has a slight smell to the wound and the skin flap that they stitched is turning blackish. I cleaned and redressed the wound. It is not hot or red and fluid coming from wound I’d clear. Should I be concerned about the skin smelling and going blackish?

Hello,

This indicates that there is an underlying infection in the skin and it has necrosed the tissue and compromised its vascular supply.

Please refer to an emergency department nearby as the wound urgently needs debridement and saline wash and restitching.
