How Can An Infection In The Thyroid Cartilage Be Treated?

I was told I have a infection in my cartridge by my thyroid! Dr recommended I take Levaquin, because I m allergic to penicillin clindamycin I am afraid to take level Quan, it has too many side effects I am over 60 years old , And have our RA and I am afraid of side effects is there another antibiotic that can be recommended please
