Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Wearing two pair of gloves I dropped a large rock on the tip of my index finger crushing it against another stationary rock. Even though my gloves were not torn my finger was split (bleeding slightly) about 1/2 inch at the tip and what seemed to be inner tissue was bulging out. My finger doesn t hurt that much. I ve washed it many times and am trying to let it heal without a bandaid. When ever I get it wet (which goes flat when dry) the tissue sticking out goes from being scab like to becoming very soft and sensitive. What should I now do as it has been two day and it does not appear to be scaring over?
As the hard object has fallen over the finger there might be two possibilities - one there might be a fracture or two - there might be severe damage to the muscles around the index finger which may have troubled the microcapillaries as well.
I will advise to take up an x-ray to rule out the fracture part. If no fracture found then will advise you to first stabilize the finger in the splint for around 3-4 weeks of time. In that duration doing hot water fermentation will be good for allowing the muscles to reduce inflammation, improve healing and improve blood supply.
Post 3-4 weeks of time you may be advised to do simple finger exercise which can help regain the strength in the muscles of the finger to get the desired results.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
