How Can An Insect Bite Be Treated?

I found a small tick on me. it seemed to have really dug into my skin. I had a very hard time removing it. I believe I got the whole thing out, but I had to use a needle and fingernail clippers, and I left a small hole in my arm. I washed it with hydrogen peroxide and later alcohol. it is scabbing over now. I still have the little bug. do u think I need medical help?

Hello,

A tick bite can cause a localized allergic reaction, however, it can also cause an infection that might need antibiotic therapy. In case if you are not having any symptoms like fever, chills, fatigue etcetera, then you need not worry as it can be most probably a localized allergic reaction.

In case if any of these symptoms are present, then you need to immediately consult an emergency room and get evaluated and they can advise you antibiotics for relief.

For now, you can clean the bite area with an antiseptic ointment and apply a combination of antibiotic and steroid ointment over it. Avoid scratching the area as it can cause the spread of infection and inflammation. You can take anti-histamines like Benadryl if there is itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
