How Can An Itchy Red Rash On The Thigh Be Treated?

Hey there. Last night I had what I thought was a mosquito bite that welted up on my outer thigh. Itchy and irritating, but no big deal. When I woke this morning, the welt had turned into a larger bump, red in color, with darker red/purple bruising around it. There doesn t seem to be a bite mark tho. Im a 28 year old male in Ohio, with my only known allergy being Sulfa drugs. The bump is probably the size of a quarter in diameter, with the bruise itself closer to the size of a child s fist. It does not really itch anymore. Please advise. Can send pics if I m able to.

Hi,

Yes, it looks like some bite only as your explanation of a localized area of bruised and lump that was also itchy can be due to biting only.

So my suggestion is to apply a steroid ointment like Betamethasone over it and do cool compresses over it at least 2-3 times a day.

You can also take anti-allergy medicine like Levocetirizine or Benadryl to see if it heals.

In case if there is no improvement consult the ER and get yourself checked.

Avoid scratching the area to avoid chances of infection.
