How Can An Umbilical Cord Hernia Be Treated?

My grandson is 4 months old. He has had an umbilical cord hernia since birth. He is very solid feeling and stiff in his trunk. I am worried that he won t be able to bend and relax enough to be able to roll over sit up and crawl. Does he need surgery, physical therapy or other medical treatment to enable him to develop normally?
