How Can Ankle Swelling Be Treated?

I jammed my leg between 2 seats, outside of leg around high calf. It seemed to twist and I felt pain at time, but then sat down and didn t feel any pain for the rest of an hour. When I got back up, it was very sore and I have difficulty walking on it. Have been icing it and have it elevated. Ankle has been swelling. Anything else I should do?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Ankle swelling what you are complaining off needs a proper work-up and evaluation.
Kindly get X-ray of the region done to know weather is there a presence of bone injury along-with or ligament injury alone.
If the bone is affected, then you need to immobilise the joint for 6 weeks by putting externally POP cast.
In case it is only a ligament injury, then you need to do the following:
1. Take a course of Tablet. Diclofenac with serratiopeptidase after food for controlling pain and swelling.
2. Immobilise the joint by applying elastic crape bandage for 4 to 6 weeks.
3. Foot end elevation during sleeping and applying ice pack for 15 to 20 minutes over the joint before bedtime.
4. Not to apply direct pressure on the ankle while walking for 4 weeks.
Kindly consult Orthopedic Surgeon with the X-ray report for review and management.
Gradually, your symptoms of pain and swelling should subside and return back to normal.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
