How Can Anxiety-induced Depression Be Treated For A Chain Smoker?

Hey my friend is currently taking holidays from work and suffering from anxiety induced depression. He is taking PRISTIQ also he is trying to quit smoking over the last 4 days after smoking around 20 a day. It s not going well I m trying to consol him but he s feeling suicidal. The only medication iv ever seen cure his mental state has been valium. What should I (we) do?

Hi,

Your friend needs a help from a psychiatrist. The mentioned desvenlafaxine can be used in such a case and is effective in treating depression. Meanwhile, alprazolam like anti-anxiety drug also can be added for short time to help in anxiety.

He needs to be given behavioral counseling by a psychiatrist as well to help him.

Yoga, meditation is also advisable to him. The medication will help in improving the symptoms after 10-15 days. So convince him to take the drug regularly.
