How Can Anxiety Leading To Dizzy Spells And Constipation Be Treated?

My mother is 60yrs old. She gets dizzy spells (vertigo) and constipation. This happens every few months and puts her down for a week a time during which she will sleep a lot. Sometime stress/anxiety will bring the attack. She takes meds for blood pressure and is pre-diabetic. any ideas? tried manipulations for inner ear crystals (didn t help).

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Anxiety can be associated with a number of different symptoms. It can affect bowel activity in some persons and therefore cause constipation particularly if there is a change in diet associated with the anxiety.

There are some medications that can cause constipation as well, her meds are not listed here but you may want to take a look at their side effect profile to see if constipation is a side effect.

She may need to see an ENT specialist or neurologist to have the vertigo assessed.

I hope this helps
