Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Appetite Loss And Stomach Ache In A Child Be Treated?
my son is 15 and he has no appetite, he is complaining of a sharp, aching pain just above his belt line. He had these symptoms about a month ago and lasted for a day or so, no he s got this discomfort again and said he s had it for a couple days now. He isn t constipated, says his stool is fairly loose and light brown in color
The fact that the symptoms last for only a few days very likely he was having a viral infection each time.
They are generally self-limiting and should improve in a few days so there is no need for specific treatment but keep the child hydrated by giving a frequent small amount of water and other fluids and for appetite taking the small frequent amount of food during the day will help as well.
If these episodes repeat he might need some tests to rule out parasites (stool for ova and parasites and stool antigen for giardia).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
