Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Arthritis Be Treated While Suffering From Renal Failure?
I am 5th-stage renal failure and on home PD, so I can not take NSAIDS without risking even further kidney damage (I still make copious amounts of urine). I am developing arthritis especially in my hands and neck. What are good OTC anti-inflammatories that I can safely take? Glucosamine has been suggested. I would value your opinion. Thanks!
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. NSAID's can only worsen the renal failure and should be avoided. Physiotherapy can help, arthritis can be managed by physiotherapy. Physiotherapists are highly qualified in the assessment and treatment of the effects of arthritis.
Physiotherapy can: reduce pain, improve movement and posture, strengthen muscles, improve independent function, assess and treat biomechanical problems that may exacerbate the pain and loss of function. If you suffer from arthritis pain it is important that you have your condition assessed by a physiotherapist. Finding a fix to improve the overall condition is rather better compared to NSAID's intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ayesha Shareef
