How Can Atrial Fibrillation Be Treated?

I am a 50-year old male that was diagnosed 18 months ago wit AFib - with at that time, mild left atrial dilation and mild left ventricular hypertrophy. The control of the AFib has not proved completely successful and the LA has continued to dilate - fill volume has increased from 51ml to 64ml; and the LA area has increased from 17.9cm2 to 21.1cm2. Still classified as mild dilation though. My left ventricle ejection fraction has fallen from a very high 69% to 57% in that same 18 month grown only slightly from 1.8cm to 1.9cm. The diastolic dimension however has fallen from 4.91cm to 4.4cm, indicating further thickening. In addition, my aortic root has expanded from 3.0cm to 3.3cm in the same 18 month period. In my last cardiology visit 4 weeks ago, I was captured in AFib in the dr s office - was immediately removed from atenolol and placed on Sotalol and Eliquis. I had previously been on an aspirin regimen. In my October 2015 echo-cardiogram, the mitral valve showed trace regurgitation; Now, both the mitral and tricuspid valve show mild regurgitation. My cardiologist had me meet with his nurse practitioner after the switch in medicine and we discussed why the continuing trend in my echo numbers - her response was this is all due to the AFib. We have a very strong history of heart problems in my family - including my father (4 heart attacks and quintuple bypass surgery) and baby sister who had a heart attack at age 43. In addition, I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and am now using a CPAP at night. I am mostly alarmed at the continuation of the atrial dilation
