Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am the mother of a 35 year old daughter. At the urging of the public school, we home schooled her. She can maintain a minimum wage, is social and has a fair amount of skills. But she can t drive and it would be hard for her to manage money and live independently. She lives with us. We have coped and managed pretty well, but if something were to happen to my husband and I, we want a plan in place so her siblings are not responsible. She has never been diagnosed; back when she was 5, I don t even think autism was a popular term. Where do we start with getting diagnosed so we can know what is available to us?
It’s not always easy to make an autism diagnosis. There’s no lab test for it, so doctors rely on observing the behaviors of very young children and listening to the concerns of their parents.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
