How Can Autism In A Child Be Diagnosed?

I need to find a physician to evaluate my grandson who may have autism. We took him to his regular M.D. and he told us we would have to find a physician who is qualified to evaluate him. My grandson is 5 years old. So do I need to consult with for him to get evaluated? Thank you, Karen
