I fell from 2nd step on ladder, my left knee was still healing from a fall and seemed to buckle. I then fell on my back. Should I ice my upper left calf that just started hurting after the fall 3-4 hours ago? My back is beginning to hurt a bit also. Hot bath? I m 65, female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Backache sounds to be ligament sprain or stretch most likely,if rest of the back movements are painful but normal.

Local application of heating pad followed by analgesic spray or ointment containing Diclofenac with Menthol helps greatly, if practiced every 6 hourly.Intake of analgesic as Aleve or else if no history of particular drug sensitivity, gives best pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
