How Can Backache While Suffering From Shingles Be Treated?

I have a mild case of shingles - two spots plus sensations in my neck. It has been one week and the two spots are improving but I have been getting this pain in my back. A shooting pain and achy feeling when I turn certain ways. Is this from the shingles or the medication they put me on? (valacyclovir and prednisone)

Hello,

Yes, unfortunately shooting pain or any other strange sensations can be linked to shingles.

It causes nerve related pain or symptoms. It is not likely related to any of the medicines that you are currently using.

There are medications that can help with nerve related symptoms or pain for example, gabapentin, Lyrica, Tegretol, amitriptyline et cetera.

If the symptoms continue, then you can speak to your doctor about an additional medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
