How Can Bipolar Depression Be Treated?

I have bipolar depression currently diagnosed in 1994. I ve been taking medication with therapy recovery sense. Throughout the years I ve taken many different medications with different dose levels and combinations. Currently I take lithium, (levels are good,) Lamictal, neurontin, and klonopin. I m weaning the klonopin I have taken for decades. With the ARNP I see. I ve been tapering slowly off the Klonopin. I m looking for an anti-depressant that will not affect my sex drive or have me gain weight. Also, I m open to a whole new medication arrangement if there s one you know of. I m seeking positive stabilization, the least number of individual medications. With no weight gain or sexual dysfunction. I see my ARNP on Tuesday this week. Can you steer me in a good direction?

Hi,

You ate right most antidepressant do cause certain side effects especially weight gain and sexual dysfunction.

In this context, few drugs are much better like bupropion and mirtazapine are associated with the least sexual dysfunction in its group and I personally advise them in such people.

A newer agent called vortioxetine is also claimed to have the least effect on weight and sexual performance. So discuss these options with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
