How Can Blood Pressure Levels Be Kept Under Control?
As antenol has a current shortage, my Dr has prescribed two alternatives of which I have used each for a couple of weeks. I also take triamterine. my blood pressure has been controlled for over 25 years, however, with the recent change it is running 140+/88+. Any suggestions? Meteoportal was terrible, hot flashes, low energy, headaches and high blood pressure. I am 64. Thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The change in medication is the cause for your fluctuations in blood pressure. Triamterene is not a good antihypertensive medication as it's not in the current recommendations as per JNC VIII guidelines. Please proceed with the following
1. Salt reduced diet max up to 2 grams per day
2. Start Chlorthalidone and titrate it according to BP. The same must be below 140/90
3. Brisk walk for 30 minutes five days per week
4. If you any other illness like diabetes, obesity then it's better to consult a physician
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
