How Can Blood Sugar Levels Be Kept Under Control?

have diabetes and it was under control untill a month ago. Dr. took me off metformin because he said it was messing with my kidneys. since getting off metformin sugar will rise very much in afternoon and fall drastically at night. can t seem to control it. rises to over 400 in afternoon without eating but a real small lunch. I take 31 units of lantus solar star every morning. Sugar will rise in afternoon.

Hi,

I understand your concern.

From what you are reporting, as the blood sugar (bs) is rising to over 400 in the afternoon, you need to change therapy. If cannot take metformin, another long acting insulin is suggested to start in the afternoon (Novolog Mix 70/30) in order to keep your bs under control.

Next, treating kidney illness is also essential in managing bs levels.
