How Can Bronchitis And Shortness Of Breath Be Treated?

Hello, I went to urgent care on Monday for bronchitis. The doctor was checking my vitals out and my breathing when she noticed I have asthma so recomended a “breathing treatment.” Also a z pack which I also have never had. It’s now Wednesday and I am feeling so much better per say in terms of illness but I am also experiencing a lot of anxiety. I feel like I have adrenaline inside my veins or something. It’s like I drank a million coffees. Is it from the z pack or the breathing treatment? How long will it last?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have been prescribed an antibiotic (Azithromycin) and probably a drug that dilates your bronchus, a logical choice in cases where restriction of bronchioles has settled.

It is natural that you are feeling better after such treatment. The fact that you are feeling like you have adrenaline inside, or like you have had lots of coffee is just a mental state. Previously you were ill, and suddenly you feel much better, then you perceive this as euphoria.

Higher and more effective ventilation makes you feel better. Z-pack and breathing treatment do not have any psychological effects, and therefore what you feel is a reflection of you feeling much better.

After very few days you will be used to your new feeling well situation, and this euphoria like effect will go away.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ervin Toçi
