How Can Bruising And Swelling On The Buttocks Be Treated?

My daughter is 17 yrs old. She plays soccer and has fallen numerous times, but not recently. Today is Sunday 3/13, since 3/7 she s had coccyx pain. It increased daily so I took her to the chiropractor Thursday and Saturday/ yesterday. The Dr. did two low back adjustments, moist heat, and electric stimulation at her low back. We ve continued with warm and cold therapy as well as NSAID. She s had difficulty sleeping, especially the last two nights. She managed to work today (light duty at Dunkin Donuts), standing mostly for approx 4 hours. She has little appetite and now has a low grade fever of 99.7. One last note, her buttocks has bruising at center ( crack, for lack of better word) and a bit more swelling on the left side.

Hi, thanks for your question. Please rate my answer if you are satisfied.
It appears to me that your daughter has what's called "coccydynia". This is a painful condition of coccyx caused usually by injury. Coccydynia is treated conservatively with pain killers and anti inflammatory medication (NSAIDS and serratiopeptidase or steroids) and most importantly by rest. Your daughter should never sit on a hard surface while she has this. She should always sit on a cushion or a well padded seat. It usually takes 2-3 weeks to recover with proper care. If it's taking longer you should consider visiting a physiotherapist. In severe cases a steroid shot directly in the involved area is also considered some times. If she is starting to have fever that might be an indication that she needs antibiotics as well. Good luck.
