How Can Canker Sores In Mouth Be Treated?

MY SON HAS CANKER SORES IN THE MOUTH AND WE HAVE DONE EVERY THING FROM MOUTH WASHES TO OTC MEDICATIONS AND CAN T SEEM TO GET RID OF THEM FOR A MONTH NOW. HE IS 19. HE ALSO GOT A MOUTH RINSE FROM THE DENTIST PERIDEX. I WAS WONDERING IF HE NEEDS TO BE ON AN ANTIBIOTIC OR SOMETHING?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since the Canker sores are not responding to treatment, your son may need oral steroids. You can use pastes, creams or gels that have benzocaine, peroxyl mouth rinse. You are suggested to get him clinically examined by a dentist for he may need cautery of the sores. In the meantime, you can give him B6, B12, zinc & folic acid for quicker healing. Avoid spicy food & addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
