How Can Carotid Artery Disease Be Treated?

A friend of mine (35 yrs. old) was just diagnosed with a 99 percent blocked carotid artery that seems to be inoperable. She has been airlifted to a hospital specializing in strokes. Is there any alternate procedures that can be done to improve blood flow?
