Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with Cellulitis on my right leg from my knee to my ankle. The doctor was very confident in her opinion but she says that somehow I was infected by introducing it into my skin. In 52 years I ve never had this before although more than a few cuts, scrapes, bites, etc. What caused my cellulitis? Can I avoid it? any permanent damage?
Cellulitis occurs as an effect of skin infection. Predisposing factors in old age include diabetes, steroid use, and chronic illness impairing immune system. It is a treatable condition. There will not be any permanent damage but sepsis can develop as a complication which can be life threatening if left untreated. Advice 1. Cefixime 100 mg twice daily per oral for 7 days 2. Ibuprofen 600 mg per oral after meal if pain occurs. Otherwise avoid it 3. Clean the area with betadine liquid every 8 hours 4. Take rest for few days as movement of limb will cause spread of infection 5. Investigation – blood sugar (F & PP) I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
