How Can Charlie Horse In The Groin Area Be Treated?

I get severe charlie horse in the groin. Tonight in both legs at once. I am 74 yrs old, exercise in a heated pool, take meds for GERD, bp, asthma, calcium; I do my own cleaning and stay quite active. I drink alot of water. Tonight I drank tonic water and took magnesium, and the cramping eased up in about 6 minutes. Got any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

To me should increase magnesium dosage intake for a few days first then decide for long-term treatment strategy.

Apply ice on the affected area every 3-4 hours for the next couple of days.

Do bandage the affected area especially when moving around.

If still no improvement should consult with your caring doctor as might need further diagnostic tests and prescription meds.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
