Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had Crohn s for several years. I take 4-5 Lialda tablets daily; they maintain no rectal bleeding. Forgetting the tablets, I have explosive, blood and mucus diarrhea. What Lialda does not do is prevent lower right abdominal pain, for which I take Hydrocodone and Hyoscyamine. The former is controlled, so sometimes I m given a Tylenol with Codeine #3. I was about to check all of the medications in the healthcaremagic list when this box popped up. So, suggestions? Oh yes, I m an 80-year-old and I m fatigued most of the time. Thank you.
As per my surgical experience, the analgesic consumed here in form of Hydrocodone is not safe in case of chronic bloody diarrhea, as it has all the chances to erode the intestine mucosa.
My guidelines at present
- Drink more liquids.
- Follow strict diet plans.
- Raise intake of probiotics with food.
- Avoid smoking, alcohol if using.
- Avoid all gastro irritant drugs as per the strict guidelines by your doctor
- Get prescription of GI specific antibiotics in case of acute flare ups.
Do regular colonoscopy evaluation with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
