How Can Chronic Constipation And Abdominal Pain Be Treated?
10 days ago i felt as though my bowels had stopped working altogether and no real urge to try. Intense cramping pains low in abdomen followed in a day or so associated with full bladder. Been treating reflux that caused hiatal hernia and a few hot spots in stomach for 6 months which seems to recently be getting better in chest. Was still eating mild foods, veggies and fruits, yogurt etc, with a protein powder-fiber-almond milk-apple juice drink each morning. No dairy in months, and since the stoppage, only full liquid diet, so i cant figure out why the miralax and stool softeners Dr put me on aint workin but only a little as i drink lots of water all day. cramping is a little better but not much, still pain with full bladder and had prostate and manual gut checks done.
Constipation is a common condition and sometimes can be long term and many patients struggle with it. On the other hand it is good to have the right checks if it is not responding to treatment. In your case if you are over 50 years of age and have not had a colonoscopy then you need one to make sure that the bowel is well.
Miralax and stool softeners should be able to take care of constipation especially if taken in optimal doses. Maybe you might need to talk with your doctor on the need for colonoscopy and also to check if you are using optimal dose of these medications.
You have to also know that constipation is chronic, medications help while they are being used. If you don't take them regularly or you stop them, then constipation might come back.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
