How Can Chronic Constipation Be Treated?

My husband is suffering from extreme constipation, he usually doesn t have problems but he is taking oxycodone because he has cancer, and he has been taking miralax and has not had troubles until tonight. He is in a lot of pain, and hurts very badly. He says the stool is rock hard and won t come out. Should I try a glycerin suppository? It s so late now I don t think any stores are open thank you!. Mrs. Estes I don t have any money now.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, he can try the glycerin suppository if you have it available but he may also need a stool softener when you are able to get one eg ducolax

Increased fluid intake and the use of a lot of fiber would be long term measures to help in the long term control of his constipation. In addition to dietary fiber, a fiber supplement would be helpful eg benefiber, cetrucil or metamucil

I hope this helps
