How Can Chronic Constipation Be Treated?

Okay, I have bowel movements less than once a week. I used to go at least once a day. I eat a healthy diet, I avoid processed sugar, I have been gluten free fro 8 years, and as of the last 2 months I eat very little starchy food. Lots of real food, veggies, fruit and unprocessed meat. 3 days ago I started taking extra magnesium powder in water in order to have a bm. When it finally worked I had a terrible odor (probably from just not going) but there was also red around the water in the toilet and my toilet paper was maroon tinted with the stool being quite dark. Today I had a normal movement, it wasn t as stinky, but still red in the water around the stool and darker, sticky, maroon on the wipe.
