How Can Chronic Cough And Chest Congestion Be Treated?

I have a very bad cough, producing mucus that s mostly clear but can also be yellowish in color. Constant congestion in sinuses, head pressure, and body aches from coughing so hard. Having a very difficult time falling asleep, because every time I lay down, I start coughing. I actually feel better the longer I sit straight up or stand. This has been going on for about 1 1/2 weeks now. Can you tell me what I have?

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of a chronic cough and chest congestion which is due to chest infection/bronchitis. Visit pulmonologist once and get it examined.

You should get X-ray chest done. You should go for pulmonary function tests as well to check the exact level of infection. You need inhaled bronchodilators and an antihistamine drug.

Avoid taking cold carbonated beverages. Keep your head high while sleeping. You should use mist humidifiers in the room. Take steam several times a day, which will be very helpful and take an antihistamine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
