How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated While On Lisinopril?

I ve been on lisinopril 10mg since last June. I have had that annoying dry cough since then. Some days i hardly cough and some days i cough all the time, even if i am eating something. I m really getting tired of it, my ribs even hurt from coughing so much. So what i want to know is if there is another blood pressure medication that won t cause you to have that annoying cough. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes there is an alternate option you can use Sartans which is angiotensin II receptor blocker like (Telmisartan). Enalapril is angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors which increase bradykinin in the lung which causes dry cough so you should change the medicine.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
