How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

My husband has had a cough for about 14 months. He smoked cigarettes than stoped and went to vapor. Than about this September went to cigars does not smoke alot if them but the cough is really bad also his sleep is disruptive to him and me. Saw monsters inside me tonight and it sounds like my husband could have blastomycosis. He has worked last year and this year on rebuilding a deck and made gazebo worked with a lot wood and sanding old wood. Old wood spores he could of contacted this fungal problem. X-rays and a doctor listening to his lungs were clear. But I am still worried.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Quitting cigarettes can cause coughing in some individuals. But this will eventually fade away. He can take over the counter cough suppressant containing dextrometorphan . Depart chest X-ray and pulmonary function test is also recommended since the cough is persistent. If you are worried about possible blastomyces infection, a blood antibody testing can rule out I'm the infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
