How Can Chronic Cough Due To Bronchitis Be Treated?

I ve been told I have Bronchitis. I am just now getting over the flu, and now having trouble with this cough when I lay down at night. It seem that phlegm starts in my throat and I have to cough and try and get it out. I ve tried sleeping on an incline, but still cough, cough drops don t seem to have much of effect. When I sit up I don t cough.

Hello dear
I understand your concern
Your cough is due to ongoing bronchitis.
Your symptoms could be due to viral or allergic bronchitis.
If it is not associated with fever, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest congestion then nothing to worry and take following advises for next 7-10 days.

-Take Cough syrup containing guaifenesin and dextromethorphan (Q tussin CF): 10 ml three times a day
-Drink plenty of lukewarm water
-Steam inhalation 3-4 times a day
-Strepsil throat lozenges (neem and honey flavor):take every 3 hourly
-Avoid cold beverages and exposure to pollutants

If the cough persists despite using the above medication then further workup would be required by consulting the pulmonologist.
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
