How Can Chronic Depression Be Treated?

Hi I am from Jaipur , my mother in law age 55 is having symptoms of depression. She sleeps very less She is worried all the time for one or the other thing in the house. We are a family of 5 and all kids are settled still she says that she has no one and will stay alone in a oldafe home. Or she wants her death to approach soon . If you do not behave the way she wants you to she gets hyper and starts crying . In this attempt twice she has tried for suicide.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, you are right, your mother in law is showing sign of severe clinical depression.

Has she seen a good psychiatrist for medical management, as well as a counselor for coping strategies? These would be my recommendations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
