How Can Chronic Diarrhea Be Treated?

I have had diarrhea for a week. I am going through maxi-pads at three or four a day. I have been taking Imodium with no results. What do you recommend? I cannot see my PCP tomorrow and can t go through another weekend like this. I recently had Major Back Surgery and am on a lot of pain medication. Does this have any thing to do with my condition?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The diarrhoea is related to disturbed GI flora via the use of analgesic and antibiotics are given for postoperative therapy purpose.
* Till you meet a doctor for a prescription of antibiotic as metronidazole, I recommend you to
- increase your water intake
- probiotics with lactobacillus will help great
- raise intake of fresh yoghurt in die.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
