How Can Chronic Insomnia Be Treated?

I was prescribed Amiodarone for AFib and was taken off Trazodone which I had been taking for years. Now I am suffering from insomnia and have taken several OTC medications for which I haven t had much luck. Can you recommend an OTC sleep medication that would not interact with Amiodarone. I am desperate for some good sleep. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Go for Nitrazepine, one tablet at night and observe sleep hygiene. I will give as many steps as possible:
- Going to bed at the same time daily
- No heavy meals at night
- No tea, coffee or alcohol after 5 pm
- No night bulb in the bedroom
- No checking time at night frequently
- No exercise before sleep
- No watching television or reading books etcetera 2 hrs before sleep time
- Deep breathing before going to bed

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
