Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My seventeen yo Daughter has had chronic migraines for two years that start in the early morning (3-4 AM) and last several hours though the morning (11-12, or later). They have increased in frequency and currently are occurring every day. She takes Imitrex if awakened early enough with scant effectiveness. She has been taking Topramax and that has no effect. she will be starting a new med which escapes me now. She currently has a swelling in her face around the cheeks and is taking an antibiotic for a possible dental related infection. As you might have ascertained, she has missed a lot of school. Any suggestions?
There is currently no single cure for migraines. Treatment is aimed at preventing a full-blown attack and alleviating the symptoms that occur.
Lifestyle alterations that might help reduce the frequency of migraines include:
-getting enough sleep
-reducing stress
-drinking plenty of water
-avoiding certain foods
-regular physical exercise.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
