How Can Chronic Migraines Be Treated?

I m having chronic migraines in which direct sunlight or sitting in florescent lighting for long periods of time triggers these migraines. I asked my doctor to write me a letter so that I can be able to get window treatments so that when I m driving the direct sunlight doesn t cause me to have vision impairment. The doctor office wrote a letter, but it only stated they were treating me for migraines and light sensitivity. It states under the Michigan Legislature Section 257. 709 3(e) A special window treatment or application determined necessary by a physician or optometrist, for the protection of a person who is light sensitive or photosensitive, if the owner or operator of a motor vehicle has in possession a letter signed by a physician or optometrist, indicating that the special window treatment or application is a medical necessity. However, the special window treatment or application shall not interfere with or obstruct the driver s clear vision of the highway or an intersecting highway. So my question why would they write me a letter saying I do have light sensitivity and migraines but they refuse to write me a letter for window treatment?? Who do I need to talk to a eye doctor instead?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your treatment strategy depends on the frequency and severity of your headaches, the degree of disability your headaches cause, and your other medical conditions. Pain relievers such as Aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) may help relieve mild migraines.Acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), also may help relieve mild migraines in some people.Drugs marketed specifically for migraines, such as the combination of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine (Excedrin Migraine), also may ease moderate migraine pain. Triptans effectively relieve the pain and other symptoms that are associated with migraines. They are available in pill, nasal spray and injection form. Anti-nausea medications, opioids and steroids may be used in addition in severe cases. Also, you need to rest and relax and have good sleep. If there wont be improvement it would be good to do MRI scan and have neurological exam.

Hope I have answered your query.
