How Can Chronic Vomiting While Suffering From Diabetes Be Treated?

My husband is a relatively healthy diabetic. 68 years old. Takes cholesterol, be, and insulin meds. Has been throwing up for 17 hrs. Gave him sugar free ginger ale 10 hrs ago. Went down ok but now he is vomiting every 15 min. Just bile. Should I take him to the emergency room? Maybe in the morning? He is very weak. Has had no food or meds since sat breakfast

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Vomiting can cause weakness because of the loss of fluid and electrolytes combined with decrease food/fluid intake.

It is most commonly caused by a viral or bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract and tends to last only a few days (5 to 10).

With his diabetes and use of insulin, it may be best to take him to the hospital because his blood sugar and hydration are going to be affected by the illness.
He may need iv fluids.

I hope this helps
